"Stop the coup" rally protesting President Trump and Elon Musk draws hundreds in Boston
Hundreds of rally-goers gathered on the icy Boston Common Friday to voice their frustrations with President Donald Trump and billionaire turned White House official Elon Musk.
"Elon Musk? Nobody voted for him. It's outrageous," said Stephanie from Arlington.
"Leading with love"
With uncertainty looming over USAID, reproductive rights and immigration, rally organizers told WBZ-TV they're leading with love on this Valentine's Day.
"I want to fight to keep them safe from deportation, to keep them safe from incarceration and to fight out of this love and solidarity I feel," Sarah Binney of the IfNotNow Movement said.
"We just can't outsource our country to billionaires," said Belchertown's Eric Bright.
There were plenty of signs donning Musk's face at the Parkman Bandstand as he's tasked with cutting government spending – including a program that provides humanitarian aid to people all over the world.
"USAID – that money goes to help people who are starving. Children who are starving," said Stephanie from Arlington.
Mass GOP fires back
The state's Republican party fired back at rally-goers in a statement that reads in part: "…"Democrats have little to showcase from the past administration's successes and no failures to point to in the current one, so they've resorted to screaming from the rooftops and attacking Musk."
Linda Blake drove from Methuen to Boston to be in attendance.
"We have rights that are being trampled on right now and I will stand up and fight for them," said Blake.
Their hope is that the power of their voice will create change.
"At the end of the day, our founding fathers put the people in charge," said Bright.
"Frankly, it took a lot for me to get here because it's been so discouraging, but I've decided I'm refusing to be discouraged and with the help of friends – we show up," said Stephanie from Arlington. "And we're going to keep showing up and keep showing up."
