Quincy Woman Dies After Car Crash On Route 3 In Norwell
NORWELL (CBS) -- A Quincy woman was killed Friday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on Route 3, the state police said.
At 3:04 p.m. Friday, troopers received calls about a car that had left the roadway and crashed in the median strip on Route 3 northbound in Norwell, the state police said Saturday in a prepared statement.
Two troopers, including one in his personal car and another driving home from his shift in Boston, were close to the crash and stopped to provide first aid to the car's injured driver with a good Samaritan before the arrival of paramedics. The driver, Krystle Clifford ,28, of Quincy was taken to South Shore Hospital by Rockland Fire Department and EMS with life-threatening injuries.
Clifford, the lone occupant in the car, was later pronounced deceased from injuries she sustained in the crash, the state police said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation; however, preliminary reports indicate there were no other vehicles involved and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
During the emergency response to the crash, the left lanes of the northbound and southbound sides of Route 3 were closed to allow for rescue operations, investigation and clean up. The lanes were closed until 5:15 p.m., which caused commuter traffic delays.
Troopers were assisted at the crash scene by members of the Rockland, Norwell and Hanover fire departments along with state Department of Transportation workers.
