Quincy Couple Celebrates 75th Wedding Anniversary

QUINCY (CBS) – It's a love story three-quarters of a century in the making.

June Holmes, 90, and her 93-year-old husband, Walter, have been married 75 years!

"I am very excited right now! Today is my 75th anniversary!" June told WBZ-TV Friday.

The two married on August 14, 1940.

He was 19 and she was only 15 years old.

"It was God's miracle that happened to us. It was an arranged marriage by my parents. There's so much I can say. First of all it was by the grace of God," June said.

They had six children together.

Joyce Doucette, 64, said her parents are her inspiration.

"I'm so happy. I was in work today and I told everyone. I told them about my father and mother today!" Joyce said.

Walter served in World War II. He will turn 94 next week. He lost most of his hearing and recently suffered a stroke.

"I feel great! She means a lot to me," Walter said.

On their 75th anniversary June read the man of her dreams a card.

"For my husband, when I think about the memories we made, the things we've learned, the love we shared, I just have to smile," the card says.

"You shared my dreams, let me lean on your strength, given me a life that turned out even better than I expected. You are sweet good man and I am so lucky I married you," June read.

She and Walter now have 10 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.

"I just hope I will always be an inspiration to my children and to never give up," June said.

Through it all, June says the keys to successful marriage are forgiveness and unconditional love.

"You have to forgive and not hold grudges," June said.

And that is a lifetime of wisdom.
