Quiet Week...
I hope everybody had a good weekend and enjoyed the wonderful weather...that good stuff has spilled over to the work week and will continue. I must confess, I turned the heat on in the house this morning to take the chill out...first time this season. With lows in the 30s in some of the suburbs it's no wonder many households did the same. I expect similar conditions tonight as any cloud cover has melted away now that the sun is down and clear, calm conditions will prevail the rest of the night.
The high that is giving us the seasonably cool night will give us a seasonably warm day. It will slide to our south and SW return flow will usher in warmer air for the next couple of days with highs reaching the middle 70s! A coldfront will work in from the NW by Wednesday evening increasing the threat for shower activity late Wednesday into Wednesday night. There won't be much wet weather associated with it but few briefly heavy showers will develop along it as it passes through.
Another shot of chilly air will invade the Northeast behind it for Thursday and Friday...we will be looking at lots of sun, cold night in the 40s and coolish days in the 60s. Both days will feature lots of sunshine.
The weekend is still a bit cryptic. Downstream blocking will create a digging, stalling trough to work down from Eastern Canada. The cold pool of air will settle over the NE US over the weekend and early next week. The chilly air aloft will create a very unstable atmosphere and numerous showers will develop, especially with some help from the sun. Out ahead of the trough, at the edge of the chilly airmass and a warmer one to the SE, a storm will spin up. This storm will have steadier rain associated with it. The way these two features interact will ultimately determine the extent of wet weather we see over the weekend. Early thoughts are that neither day will be a washout but showers can't be ruled out either. Over the next couple of days we will have better clues as to how the weekend will play out.
