Public Meeting Set On New Bedford Harbor Project

BOSTON (AP) — The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center is hosting a public meeting about the planning construction of a New Bedford marine terminal.

The New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal will be the first facility in the country designed to support the construction, assembly, and deployment of offshore wind energy projects.

State officials say the terminal will also give the Port of New Bedford the capacity to handle high-volume bulk cargo and large specialty marine equipment.

The terminal is also being engineered to sustain mobile crane and storage loads similar to the highest capacity ports in the world.

Officials said the project will also require the dredging and remediation of about 250,000 cubic yards of contaminated sediment in the harbor.

The meeting will take place Tuesday evening at the New Bedford Public Library.
