Providence College Student Cuts Short Semester In Brussels
WEYMOUTH (CBS) -- A college student from Weymouth is home early from a semester in Brussels after the Paris terror attacks led to a security crackdown in Belgium.
Justin Walsh had about a month to go on his semester abroad. He started the semester in August, and it was supposed to end Dec. 13.
The Providence College junior had been in Etterbeek, about 20 minutes from Molenbeek where security forces started raids.
He was in Galway, Ireland when the Paris attacks occurred, and returned to Brussels as security was increased.
"I didn't feel too unsafe until I went downtown and saw the military presence down there," Walsh says. "There (were) armed guards on every street corner."
Walsh says his father, who works in security, was informed the terror alert would be raised. On Saturday morning, he caught a flight home.
He says the terror alert level was raised to a four about three hours after he left at 10:30 a.m.
Instead of abroad, Walsh will finish his assignments and final exams at home, but after things die down. He says he'd like to return, but for now he's staying put.
