Prosecutors: Brockton Man Beat Woman Before She Was Killed By Tow Truck
BROCKTON, Mass. (CBS/AP) — A Brockton man has been charged with assaulting a city woman shortly before she was run over and killed by a tow truck.
The Plymouth district attorney's office says 47-year-old George Rhodes, a Level 3 sex offender, is charged with aggravated assault and battery and unarmed robbery.
Authorities say Rhodes attacked 54-year-old Sebrena McLein on Monday evening.
Minutes later, just after 11 p.m. Monday, police responded a garage for reports that a tow truck had run over a woman lying on a ramp. McLein was pronounced dead at a hospital.
WBZ-TV's Christina Hager reported that during an arraignment in Brockton Court on Friday, prosecutors said Rhodes beat McLein and left her injured on the ground, where she remained until she was run over by the tow truck.
Prosecutors added that Rhodes was seen on surveillance footage arm-in-arm with McLein, who they say he robbed.
The tow truck is owned by a service station that uses the private parking garage.
Rhode was arrested at a Boston homeless shelter Thursday. It's not clear if he has a lawyer.
According to the Massachusetts sex offender database, Rhodes was convicted in 1999 on two counts of rape of a child with force.
