Proposal Would Use Private Tolls To Pay For Route 3 Expansion
BOSTON (CBS) - Route 3 could get a massive makeover on the South Shore if a Quincy lawyer has his way.
According to the Boston Globe, Massachusetts' Department of Transportation recently listened to a plan by Former Massachusetts deputy transportation secretary Ned Corcoran to use private funding to widen the roadway.
The state would retain ownership of the road, but in exchange for the private funding, companies that put up the money would be entitled to collect tolls to recoup their investment.
DOT Chief Frank DePaola recently met with Corcoran's team. While there are no current plans to widen the road, he called the proposal "intriguing."
