Prisoner In Mass Eye And Ear Shooting Held On $1 Million Bail
BOSTON (CBS) – Raymond Wallace, the prisoner accused of shooting a sheriff's deputy last week, was arraigned in his hospital bed Tuesday afternoon and ordered held on $1 million bail.

Two Middlesex County deputy sheriffs were taking Wallace to an appointment at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary July 31 when Wallace allegedly tried to grab a gun from one of them.

There was a struggle, one deputy was shot in the leg and his partner shot Wallace in the chest.
Wallace, 36, was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital where he has been treated for the last six days.
The wounded deputy sheriff is expected to be OK.
A law enforcement source told WBZ-TV an X-ray showed that Wallace had swallowed a handcuff key and he had been planning an escape.
He's charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a public employee, and escape.
The next hearing in the case will be in September.
