Prisoner Escapes From Salem Court
BOSTON (CBS) -- Police have captured a prisoner who escaped from Salem District Court on Monday.
Karl Hackney, 45, a convicted child rapist and Level 3 sex offender, was in court when he somehow escaped.
When Hackney fled, he was still in his prison jumpsuit and handcuffs.
Police were chasing Hackney, with guns drawn, through downtown Salem. At one point several officers entered the Hawthorne Hotel with guns in hand.

"It was chaotic," one witness said. "They were running up and down the streets after him."
Hackney was finally taken into custody behind a home on Hawthorne Boulevard in Salem. Police led him out of the backyard and into a police cruiser.
Hackney was in court Monday on gun and assault charges. He will now likely face additional charges.
