Co-owner Trish Castraberti tells WBZ the former home of Karl's Sausage Kitchen became available, and she couldn't pass up the opportunity.
Prince has been in business since 1961. The new location will be take out only.
Castraberti says she's been thinking about doing this for a while. But she didn't want to open in a strip mall, she wanted a free-standing building.
The building on Route 1 north has been vacant since August. Castraberti says they're just waiting for the pizza ovens to arrive, and once they do, the doors will open.
Prince is planning to hire 15 new people to staff the new shop. There are already four other shops selling pizza nearby on that side of the road, but Castraberti says there's room for everybody. She says she respects the other shops, adding that they all work hard.
Prince Pizzeria is the largest independently owned pizzeria in the United States.
