President Obama Points Out Worcester School In 'No Child Left Behind' Speech

WORCESTER (CBS) - A Worcester school made it into President Obama's speech on Friday as he unveiled changes to the No Child Left Behind education law dating back to the President Bush era.

The President talked about Ricky Hall, the principal at University Park.

"Every single student who graduated from Ricky's school in the last three years went on to college. Every single one," the president said. "His school ranks in the top quarter of all schools in Massachusetts -- and as you know, Massachusetts' schools rank very high among the 50 states. But because Ricky's school did not meet all the technical standards of No Child Left Behind, his school was labeled a failure last year."

The president used the school as an example for a need to change the program.

"That's not right. That needs to change. What we're doing today will encourage the progress at schools like Ricky's."

Hall says he was thrilled to be mentioned in the speech.

It was a pretty surreal experience," he told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Laurie Kirby.
