Authorities responded to a home for troubled youth on Wilder Street just after 5 p.m. on Sunday where they found the pregnant girl coughing up blood from a stab wound to the back that had punctured her lung.

Police say she was flown to a Boston hospital for treatment and she and her baby are expected to survive. She is about three months pregnant.

Less than a block away from the home, 20-year-old Stephanie Gonzalez was found with a stab wound to her hand.

She was taken to Lowell General Hospital and later arrested and charged with assault and battery.

Her lawyer said at her arraignment Monday that Gonzalez is the victim. The lawyer said the pregnant teen and some of her friends attacked Gonzalez.
