Powerful Thunderstorms Move Through Mass.
BOSTON (AP) — The National Weather Service says high winds that caused damage in Agawam in western Massachusetts were from a microburst, not a tornado.
The weather service says no injuries or significant structural damage was reported after the storm that hit just after noon on Monday.
The weather service said the straight-line wind was estimated at 80 mph and in a 100-yard wide path about 1.5 miles long. A few houses were damaged by fallen trees in one area near Harvey Johnson Boulevard, and more than 40 trees were uprooted near Meadow Street, damaging about a dozen vehicles.
Several tornado warnings were issued in northeastern Massachusetts, but no major damage was reported or tornadoes confirmed.
Intense rainfall that accompanied the fast-moving storms led to street flooding in several cities and towns across the state.
