32,000 Power Outages In Massachusetts, Restoration Could Take Days
BOSTON (CBS) – More than 32,000 homes and businesses were still without power early Thursday, two days after a nor'easter brought down power lines for the third time in ten days.
According to the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), more than 230,000 customers lost electricity at the height of Tuesday's storm. Southeastern Massachusetts and the Cape and Islands were hit the hardest.
"Given the magnitude of damage from the storm, customers should prepare for the possibility that some people will be without electricity for a few days," Eversource said in a statement late Wednesday morning. "We recognize the significant disruption to our customers' lives when they lose power and we greatly appreciate their patience.
National Grid hopes to have the "vast majority" of their outages restored by midnight.
At the height of last week's second nor'easter, more than 360,000 customers were without electricity. More than 450,000 lost power in the first nor'easter.
