Portsmouth, NH, Man Arrested Shortly After Bank Robbery
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) — Police have arrested a Portsmouth, N.H., man an hour after they say he robbed a city bank and got away on a bicycle.
Police say 27-year-old James Pointer is accused of robbing the Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank shortly before 2 p.m. Friday afternoon.
Authorities say he handed a teller and note and said three armed men were circling the building.
Police say the suspect then left with an undisclosed amount of cash. Witnesses told police that they spotted a man fitting the suspect's description changing his clothes and then riding away on a bicycle.
Based on surveillance images from the bank, police arrested Pointer at 3 p.m.
He is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday.
