Pope John Paul II Blood Sample To Be Displayed By Boston Archdiocese
BOSTON (CBS) - A relic of St. John Paul II will make be making a stop in Boston next weekend.
The relic consists of a vial of the late pope's blood.
It will be on available for public veneration at Holy Cross Cathedral in Boston on Saturday, June 21, from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and again after the 4:30 p.m. vigil Mass. It will also be available on Sunday, June 22. following the 11:30 a.m. Mass.
"We are grateful to the Knights of Columbus and Saint John Paul II National Shrine for making it possible for people of faith to pray before the relic of Saint John Paul II," said Cardinal Seán O'Malley. "He meant so much to the people of the Archdiocese of Boston and around the world enlivening in them the presence of God's grace and love. We pray that those who come to the Cathedral of the Holy Cross this weekend will be inspired to carry out great works of mercy through evangelization as the Holy Father exemplified during his years as Pope and priest."
The relic will also make visits to several other cities in the United States, including New York, Philadelphia in the months ahead.
It is normally housed at the Saint John Paul II National Shrine, which is administered by the Knights of Columbus in Washington, D.C.
