Missing Medfield Teen Found Safe In Rhode Island
Brittany Thompson, 17, was discovered walking with a man from Missouri in Coventry, Rhode Island Thursday morning, Medfield Police Chief Robert Meaney told reporters in a news conference.
They were spotted by a person who called Coventry police and officers identified Thompson.
"There were no injuries," Meaney said.
Thompson's parents went to Coventry to meet their daughter. Meaney said they did not know the man who was found with her.
The man is being called a "person of interest" and not a suspect in her disappearance. His name has not been released.
The Rhode Island U.S. Attorney's office would not identify the person that was taken into custody on Thursday. More information will be released when the individual appears in court on Friday.
State and local police asked for the public's help in their search for Thompson Wednesday, fearing she may have been in danger.
She was last seen leaving the Medfield Public Library with a man at 4:25 p.m. Monday.
Meaney said it's not clear yet if the person Thompson was found with Thursday is the same man seen leaving with her Monday.
Brittany's father, Michael Thompson, told WBZ-TV he does not know the man in the surveillance photo released by police.
Thompson said his daughter went to the library after school Monday as part of her daily routine. She stays there until her mother or father pick her up.
Thompson said the man and her daughter may have met online. Police say Brittany has never had major arguments with her parents and has never run off before.
