Antonio Klapakis, 27, was found lying in the street bleeding. He was rushed to a hospital in Worcester, where he then went into surgery. He's listed in stable condition.
Police would not confirm if the victim lived in the complex, but did say he is from Brooklyn, New York.
Roads surrounding the complex were blocked off for more than four hours as police searched for the gunman.
They thought the shooter may have been holed up in an apartment, but when the State Police STOP Team went inside the gunman was not there.
Police cleared the scene just before 12:30 p.m. but they continue to search for the suspect, whose name has not been released.
