Police Fatally Shoot Bear In Tree Hanging Over Mass Pike In Newton
NEWTON (CBS) -- State Environmental Police shot and killed a bear on the Massachusetts Turnpike, early Sunday.
The bear was reported on the side of the westbound side of the Pike.
It was in a tree that was hanging over the roadway, near the Star Market Overpass.

Police tried to tranquillize it, but couldn't, so they were forced to shoot it.
State Police said the bear was shot because of "public safety reasons."
