Police Seek Suspect In Hyde Park Assault
BOSTON (CBS) – A Hyde Park neighborhood is on alert after a masked gunman assaulted a woman in broad daylight. It happened the morning of Friday, May 24th but Boston Police put out an alert Wednesday evening. They were able to get surveillance video from the Georgetown Homes Apartments where the attack happened.
"She just told me that the guy put a gun to her head," said the victim's friend. He didn't want to be identified, but says it was his apartment the woman can be seen running toward. The video shows what appears to be a grey or tan Nissan Sentra driving down Crown Point Drive. It parks and a man gets out of the back seat and approaches the woman pointing a gun. "The person was trying to put the hand on the trigger and then nothing happened and then he kind of went back to the car," the friend said. The woman had her young daughter with her, but the girl was already inside.
The suspect was wearing a black hoodie and a mask. He pulled the trigger of the gun, police say, but no shot was fired. Some neighbors saw police cars around last week, but many didn't know what happened until WBZ showed them the video.
"Man, I was completely shocked. I'm speechless," Jeannette Johnson said. She's lived in the complex three and a half years. "It makes me scared for my kids' safety and everything," she said.
"I think that some people out there are crazy and you just got to watch what you do at all times and be cautious," said neighbor Rlona Valevskaya who's been there two years. "You usually hear about it at nighttime only you know, not in the morning time it is just crazy." Both say they'll be more cautious.
Police describe the suspect as 5'10" and medium build. The victim's friend hopes someone sees the video and helps track the guy down. "Just to get the man who is trying to do this so he doesn't do it again," he said. Police are not releasing a possible motive or saying if they think the victim knew her attacker.
