Police Seek Carjacking Suspect Who Was Doused With Gasoline

TEWKSBURY (CBS/AP) — Massachusetts authorities are looking for the suspect who stole a woman's car while she was pumping gas in Tewksbury.

Police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Tewksbury resident William Tighe. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

The woman was filling up her car at a Circle K convenience store for her return trip to New Jersey when she was approached by the suspect.

Surveillance video posted to the police Twitter account shows the woman sprayed the suspect with gasoline and struggled with him before he drove away.

The camera footage shows she was dragged several feet after the carjacking. She was taken to a hospital as a cautionary measure, but police say the injuries appeared to be minor.

Officers later found the car abandoned in Lowell.

Police with dogs searched the area where the car was found but couldn't find the suspect.

Tighe was charged in Woburn District Court in December 2014 with auto theft, assault, assault with a dangerous weapon, and resisting arrest. Those charges are the result of Tighe allegedly stealing a car in Lowell and leading police on a high-speed chase to Burlington where he was arrested.
