Police Searching For Man Who Attacked 12-Year-Old Girl In Winchester
WINCHESTER (CBS) - Police are searching for a man who assaulted a 12-year-old girl in Winchester on Wednesday.
The attack happened on Canterbury Road near Grove Street.
The 12-year-old as walking home from school with a classmate when the two girls spotted the suspect, who was described as an Asian man in his early 20's, about 6-foot-1 with a lean build and crew cut. He was wearing red sweatpants and a gray hoodie at the time.
He passed the girls and they thought he was gone, so they split up, with each girl taking a different route home. Police don't know if the suspect realized the girls had separated, but he doubled back and returned to find one of the girls walking alone.
WBZ-TV's Jim Armstrong reports.
Police said the man came up behind the girl and attempted to pull down her shorts. She screamed and they ended up fighting on the ground. All of this happened in the middle of the day on a very busy street.
Sean Hannigan, 17, noticed the girl crying on the sidewalk. He pulled up to make sure she was OK, and she told him what happened. Hannigan gave chase after the suspect took off from the scene, but could not find him.
The girl was shaken up after the incident, but otherwise was not hurt.
