State Police Trooper Shoots At Suspect During Chase In Cambridge
CAMBRIDGE (CBS) – A man is in custody after a police pursuit that started on Route 1 just south of the Tobin Bridge.
It all started when a state trooper pulled over a car as part of a firearms investigation. The car sped away as the officer approached and a pursuit ensued into Cambridge.
The trooper caught up to the suspect at 55 Broadway. After an interaction with the suspect, the trooper shot at the suspect's vehicle in self-defense.
The suspect fled from the scene but the trooper did not chase because of traffic conditions and concern for public safety.
A short time later, the suspect's vehicle was involved in a minor crash and was found abandoned at Charles Circle in Boston. He was arrested by State Police on the platform inside the MBTA station at Kendall Square.
The MBTA held a northbound train on the Red Line at the Charles/MGH station while police investigated.
The suspect has been identified as 34-year-old Leroy Martin of Brighton.
