Police Release 911 Call Of Trooper Who Shot Woman
NORTON (CBS) - Police have released the frantic 911 call from the moments after an off-duty State Trooper shot a woman while hunting in the woods in Norton.
State Trooper John Bergeron made the call just before 5 p.m. on Saturday, after accidentally shooting 66-year-old Cheryl Blair of Norton.
The Trooper, who was clearly upset can be heard frantically telling the dispatcher a woman was shot in the woods.
WBZ-TV's Bill Shields reports
Bergeron gave emergency crews his location and Blair can be heard saying she's hurt.
"I don't know, I can't move," she said.
Blair is still in Rhode Island Hospital, recovering from a gunshot wound to her hip.
Norton police also released a statement on Tuesday with information about where the shooting took place.
"Investigators determined today that the incident occurred on property not owned by the victim and where hunting is permitted," it read. "This thickly wooded area is regularly used for hunting and is approximately 800 feet from any buildings."
That shooting has initially been ruled accidental.
