Police Looking For Second Car In Sterling Home Invasion
STERLING (CBS) -- Police said Wednesday morning that they were looking for a second vehicle in connection to a home invasion that took place a day before in which a 70-year-old woman was bound, threatened with a knife, and had her car stolen.
The woman told police that three masked men wearing black came into her home on Stephanie Anne Lane, tied her up with duct tape in her bedroom, and stole $1,000 in cash. They then left in her 2004 Cadillac DeVille.
That car was found Tuesday on Boutelle Road in Sterling, seven miles away from the woman's home.
The men ransacked the house, but the woman was not physically hurt, said Sterling Police Chief Gary Chamberland.
"She was remarkably calm," he said.
The woman can be heard in 911 calls released Wednesday telling police about her stolen car.
No arrests have yet been made. Police believe the robbery was targeted.
"We're assuming that it was planned. But we don't know if they're familiar with the house," Chamberland said.
On Wednesday morning, Chief Chamberland said a second vehicle may have been involved. No description of that vehicle was given.
"They had to get to this location somehow. It's in the center of Sterling. So they had to get there. They left, and then they had to get picked up where this vehicle was abandoned," Chamberland said.
Police asked anyone who may have seen the black Cadillac before it was left by the robbers to contact them.
"We're asking if anyone who saw this vehicle parked there, or another vehicle pick anybody up or anybody walking in the area to contact us," said the chief.
They are looking for video surveillance from homes or businesses that may have captured the three men.
Resident are startled that no arrests have been made.
"It's scary. You have to be on your guard all the time," one resident told WBZ-TV.
