Police K9 Finds Man Missing In Freezing Temperatures

WAKEFIELD (CBS) -- A police K9 helped to find a missing man who had made threats to harm himself on Saturday, Massachusetts State Police said.

The 19-year-old man's mother reported him missing to Wakefield police just before 2 a.m. He had fled his residence on foot with a knife, according to police.

"The temperature was extremely cold and the man was wearing only a sweatshirt," Massachusetts State Police said.

It took K9 Rocky and Trooper Jay Vital two hours to find the man on the side of a five-foot snow bank. He was sitting at the base of a tree inside a ditch that he dug out, police said.

The man was hospitalized and treated for a self-inflicted injury, police said.
