Police: Man Hits Witness With Truck After Argument With Girlfriend In Oxford
OXFORD (CBS) - A 21-year-old man originally thought to be involved in a possible abduction in Oxford will face charges after turning himself to police in on Friday.
Police said witnesses saw Alex Schmitt and 21-year-old Kylie Provencher, arguing outside a Walmart in Oxford around 7:30 a.m.
Witnesses say Schmitt hopped in his truck and began doing donuts around the parking lot before forcibly shoving the Provencher into the truck.
Two hours later, Schmitt turned himself in to police. Provencher, who turned out to be Schmitt's girlfriend, was with him.
"It was a domestic situation, that got way out of control," said Oxford Police Sgt. Tony Saad.
Witnesses, including Joseph Simon, didn't realize that at the time. Simon thought he was witnessing an abduction, said he tried to stop it.
Police say Schmitt struck Simon with his truck and took off.

Schmitt will face charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon over that alleged hit and run.

Simon was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Schmitt's girlfriend Provencher has been charged with Obstruction of Justice after police say she refused to cooperate with the investigation.
