Police: Hunter's Bullet Flies Through Home, Nearly Hits NH Resident

PELHAM, N.H. (CBS) -- A hunter's bullet went through a New Hampshire house and nearly hit a resident on Monday, police said.

Pelham police said Raymond Gladu and Sandra Gladu were sitting on separate chairs in their living room on Campbell Road at about 4 p.m. when "they heard a loud noise and saw a large cloud of dust appear over Raymond's head." The couple located a bullet hole and called police.

Before police could get there, 25-year-old Michael Crooker of Pelham reportedly knocked on their door to apologize for shooting his 12 gauge shotgun near their house.

Officers said they found a shotgun hole outside the home and found the slug in an interior wall.

Crooker told police he was trying to shoot a deer in the wooded area behind the house. Deer hunting season ended on Dec. 7 in New Hampshire, police said.

"We've had a total of nine complaints from residents that hunters were shooting too close to their homes," Pelham police Lt. Anne Perriello told WBZ NewsRadio 1030. "This is definitely the first incident that we've had where someone could've been fatally shot."

Crooker was arrested and charged with felony reckless conduct and negligent discharge of firearms, among other charges. He was released on $5,000 bail.
