Police Hope To Solve 1989 NH Murder Mystery
PETERBOROUGH, N.H. (CBS) – Cold case investigators are hoping to solve the mystery surrounding the 1989 murder of 17-year-old Craig Lane in Peterborough, New Hampshire.
"I just don't know how they can sleep with themselves, or do anything," said Skip Lane, the teen's father.
Lane knows that someone can tell him who killed his son Craig 22 years ago Saturday.
"Craig didn't deserve to die and he didn't deserve to be laying in a pool of blood screaming for help," said Lane.
Craig was working the night shift at a Texaco gas station in Peterborough when someone broke into his booth and stabbed him several times in the neck. The killer made off with cash and receipts.
The description depicts what appears to be a teenage attacker, who was seen running away from the station to a nearby remote path, leading investigators to believe the suspect knew the area.
Lane and his wife want to know what happened.
"Probably the people that knew were kids then, and they probably were scared, but they're not kids anymore," said Edie Lane, Skip's wife.
There were two witnesses at the scene that day: a man and his 6-year-old daughter, who both stopped for gas and saw the suspect run.
While it may be cold, investigators said the case has never been closed. Craig would have celebrated his 40th birthday in March.
