Police: 'Highly Unlikely' Missing Maine Toddler Will Be Found Alive
WATERVILLE, Maine (CBS) - It has been 166 days since little Ayla Reynolds was reported missing in Waterville, Maine and police now say they don't expect to find her alive.
Ayla was 20 months old when she was last seen on Dec. 17 at her father's home.
Justin DiPietro says he thinks his daughter was abducted but police don't agree and are calling the disappearance a crime.
"The search for her will continue, but it's highly unlikely she will be found alive," Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland told reporters at a news conference Thursday afternoon.
"We're not going to stop searching."
McCausland said they made the decision to make the grim announcement back on Tuesday, but he would not say what led them to this point.
It was also announced that the $30,000 reward being offered for information leading to Ayla's discovery will end on June 30.
Earlier this year, Maine State police confirmed Ayla's blood was found in her father's home, and said that the three adults in the house on the night Ayla went missing know more than they're telling police.
There have been no arrests.
