Police: Greenville, NH Man Faked Wife's Death, Wife Found Sympathy Card
HUDSON, N.H. (AP) -- Hudson police have charged a 31-year-old New Hampshire man with theft after he told his employer his wife had cancer and had died to get financial assistance.
Police said C&M Machine Co. in Hudson donated $7,000 to Scott Wellington of Greenville after he sought the company's financial help to deal with his wife's illness. The deception was uncovered when Wellington's wife found a sympathy card for her death from the company and told authorities she was not ill and had not died.
Wellington is scheduled to be arraigned Monday.
