Police: Good Samaritan Stops NH Wallet-Snatcher

MANCHESTER, N.H. (CBS) -- A good Samaritan was able to stop a wallet-snatcher in a New Hampshire Walmart on Tuesday, police say.

Authorities said a 51-year-old woman was looking at holiday cards at about 5 p.m. when a man walked by and took her wallet out of her purse sitting in her shopping cart.

"Stop him. . . he has my wallet," the woman yelled, according to police.

Manchester police said 45-year-old Richard White, a nearby customer, heard the woman's screams and saw the suspect running. White grabbed the suspect's arm, pinned him to the ground and detained him until officers arrived.

Police identified the man as 24-year-old Alan White, who is homeless. Alan White was arrested and charged with theft and also for lying about his identity.

"As a reminder, do not leave purses unattended while shopping," police said in a statement. "Carry your purse close to your body to make yourself less of a target from a purse snatcher."
