Police Search For Driver In Milford After Hit And Run Kills Child

MILFORD (CBS) -- Police confirm that they are searching for a suspect in a fatal hit and run in Milford.

Family members have confirmed that the victim of the Water Street crash was Jonathan Loja, a 5-year-old from Framingham.

The crash occurred around 5 p.m. Sunday evening, police say.

Family members that spoke to WBZ-TV said that kids were playing in the yard as an outdoor cookout was being cleared. Then when the crash occurred, the driver kept going.

Doreen McDermott lives next-door. She remembers hearing a thud when the crash occurred.

"I ran over to the child, I felt his back, you could feel a very very slight pulse," she recalled. "His father was on the ground next to him trying to console him. He wasn't crying, he wasn't making any noise, he wasn't moving."

McDermott was in shock that the driver never stopped.

"How do you not stop?" she asked. "That's what kills me."

"This person needs to be caught, found, and put to justice," McDermott added.

The vehicle in question has not been located. Police describe the car as a Scion xB 2nd Generation (2007-2015) with a special edition 'absolutely red' paint that was released in 2009. They are asking anyone with information about the car or its whereabouts to call Milford Police.

Police are currently investigating and no further information is available at this time.
