Police: Driver Was Drinking Before She Crashed Into Pregnant Medford Woman

BOSTON (CBS) - Florida police say the woman who crashed into a hotel pool cabana, killing a pregnant woman from Medford, was drinking before the crash.

Alanna DeMella was killed on March 18 in Fort Lauderdale just moments after she and her husband arrived at the Riverside Motel.

Rosa Rivera was behind the wheel when she lost control, jumped a curb and slammed into the cabana area, killing DeMella.

According to a police search warrant, Rivera ordered a martini and appetizers at a restaurant before the crash. She apparently had an argument with her husband and then took off.

Police requested the warrant to test Rivera's blood-alcohol level.
