Police Looking For Suspect In Dorchester Sexual Assault On New Year's Day

BOSTON (CBS) -- A brazen sexual assault on New Year's Day in Dorchester has residents who live near Columbia Road and Annabel Street concerned for their safety.

"It's very scary to me. It makes me not want to be in this area," one resident says.

Boston Police are looking for a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman in the area of the busy intersection.

"It kind of makes you want to move outside of Boston," a Dorchester resident said.

Investigators say the assault happened early Friday morning. The 29-year-old woman told police the suspect approached her from behind, said he had a weapon before sexually assaulting her and quickly running away.

The woman managed to get away, but the suspect is still on the loose. He's described as a black man, about 25 year old, with a goatee, and he was seen wearing black pants, a black jacket and a pink shirt.

Police are warning residents to be alert.

"I try and keep my phone on me to be vigilant, and (also) have someone walk with me," a Dorchester resident says.

Anyone with information is asked to call Boston Police at (617) 343-4400.
