Police 'Confident' Toddler Found On Deer Island Is Not Missing WV Girl

WINTHROP (CBS) – As hundreds of tips pour in to police during their search to identify the girl who was found dead last month on Deer Island, investigators are confident the toddler's body is not that of a girl who went missing in West Virginia several years ago.

A young girl was found on Deer Island June 25 inside a trash bag.

Police released photographs of a zebra striped blanket she had with her and the black and white spotted yoga pants she was wearing when found.

A computer generated image of her was circulated this week, and many people believed her image looked similar to Aliayah Lunsford, who went missing from West Virginia in 2011.

Massachusetts State Police, however, said they confident the girl found on Deer Island is not Lunsford.

Overall, police said the rendering of the girl has been viewed more than 32 million times on social media, which has "shattered" any response they've previously had on Facebok.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit at (617) 727-8817, Massachusetts State Police at (508) 820-2121 or Winthrop Police at (617) 539-5806.
