Police Call Plymouth County Residents After Fatal Middleboro Hit & Run
MIDDLEBORO (CBS) - On Thursday, nearly a quarter of a million Plymouth County residents were called on to give up any information on the hit-and-run death of 58-year-old Michael Dutra.
The Plymouth County District Attorney's office sent out a reverse 911 call to about 228,000 residents.
The call described the suspect's vehicle as, "a 2005-2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee...(that) likely has a missing or broken right front marker lens shattered right headlight lens and right front bumper damage."
Dutra's daughter, 27-year-old Michelle, had her own message for the person behind the wheel: "I want them to think about their relationship with a parent or a best friend and imagine how it feels to not have them anymore because that's what they've taken from us...just turn yourself in."
Family members said Dutra, a liver transplant recipient, nearly died last year from complications. According to Michelle and her sister, 23-year-old Shannon, their dad was a fighter and now they're fighting for him.
"I want employers to keep tabs on who hasn't been to work, students who haven't been to school, people who are coming to work in different cars," urged Michelle. "I want auto body shops to take (note of) what they're repairing and what parts they're selling I want this person found."
According to police, Dutra was riding his bike down Woods Street, just a few miles away from his Middleboro home last Friday night when he was hit by a car. Police said the driver fled the scene.
A reward has been posted by the Dutra's family for information leading to the arrest of the driver.
