Arrest Made In Death Of Man Attacked At Portsmouth, NH Bar
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (CBS) - A 24-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a Dover man who was attacked at a bar this weekend.
On Saturday, Joshua Krantz was found dead in his apartment with a fractured skull "resulting in an acute epidural hematoma," Portsmouth Police said Tuesday.
"We just went to wake him up and that's when everything became reality," said Krantz's roommate Seth Crisp.
Krantz, 24, was with friends at The Page, a bar and restaurant in Portsmouth, Friday night into the early hours of Saturday morning, according to police. At about 12:43 a.m., Krantz was the victim of an assault on the lower level dance floor. The assault does not appear to have been provoked, police said, and does not appear to have involved a weapon. Krantz was struck repeatedly in the head during the assault.
Police were not notified of the assault and Krantz did not receive medical treatment.
On Tuesday, police issued an arrest warrant for 24-year-old Zachary O'Neil of Dover for first degree assault. He was arrested in Rochester Tuesday night.
Police say O'Neil was out on bail for another fight in downtown Portsmouth.
Investigators are trying to find out whether the beating at The Page caused Krantz's fatal injury.
A determination on whether Krantz's death is accidental or homicide will be made after the N.H. Medical Examiner's Office conducts an investigation, police said.
O'Neil will be arraigned Wednesday morning.
They encourage anyone who witnessed the events at The Page to contact Portsmouth Police Detective Kristyn Bernier at 603-610-7529, or Crime Stoppers for anonymous tips.
