Search Suspended For Man Wanted In Plymouth Murder Of College Professor
PLYMOUTH (CBS) -- There's still no trace of the main suspect in the brutal murder of a college professor in Plymouth.
Search teams spent the weekend combing the Connecticut River in the immediate vicinity of a huge bridge in Gill. That's where police found a car owned by Tyler Hagmaier, a 24-year-old man who police believe stabbed 76-year-old Vibeke Rasmussen more than 35 times.
Rasmussen was a professor on the Plymouth campus of Quincy College.
Investigators think Hagmaier jumped off the bridge, but some people in the area are not so sure.
"It's a little scary, but I don't think he's here," said one woman. "I think he dumped his car. I don't think he jumped off. I think he ran."
A man who lives nearby had the same take.
"I don't think he's dead. I don't think he jumped off the bridge," he said. "I think he pulled something off...something quick. I think he might have (thrown) a boulder off the side of the bridge so people thought he jumped and disappeared."
State Police divers search the river Sunday. They also scanned the river from the air.
The water search may resume on Monday.
