Plus/Minus: Bruins Young D-Core Exposed In 3-2 Isles Loss
BOSTON (CBS) - Every weeknight on 98.5 The Sports Hub following a Bruins game, Adam Jones runs through the ups and downs in a segment he calls "Plus/Minus."
It was certainly mostly a down night for the Boston Bruins; a 3-2 loss to the Islanders at home and Zdeno Chara does not finish the game -- those are the headlines.
But there were some positives, which Jones started his discussion with in the postgame reaction.
Plus
Milan Lucic
"Lucic had his first goal of the season, and it came on the heels of a three-assist game Tuesday night against San Jose. It was a pretty solid night for the Bruins' top line left winger. The goal came at the 18:21 mark of the opening period to even the score at one goal apiece. It came off a re-direct on a nice feed from Seth Griffith in a three-on-two."
Chris Kelly
"The Bruins found themselves down 3-1 after the second period. They fought hard in the third period and actually out-shot New York 15-11. They turned the tables beginning midway through the third period thanks to Chris Kelly and his second goal of the year. Kelly pounced on the rebound in the slot off a shot by Carl Soderberg and cut the deficit to 3-2."
Johnny Boychuk Tribute
"Not necessarily for his performance, but there was a classy tribute by the organization. The fans gave him a standing ovation and he was able to sort of bask in what was a nice moment at the Garden, even in a loss for the Bruins."
Minus
Dougie Hamilton
"No surprise that all the struggles came tonight on the Bruins D-core. Boychuk is on the Islanders, Chara left in the first period and Kevan Miller is injured. Hamilton had to play a lot of minutes tonight without Zdeno Chara -- the second most on the team behind Dennis Seidenberg. Hamilton nearly kicked in the Nielsen goal."
Matt Bartkowski
"He was completely and totally overpowered and overwhelmed by the Kyle Okposo goal in the second period. Bartkowski looked totally lost on that possession. He finished with a -1 on the night."
Torey Krug
"We mentioned Bartkowski getting overpowered, same thing with Torey Krug on the Clutterbuck goal in the second period. That proved to be the game winner and the Islanders cruised to a 3-2 victory."
