Plus/Minus: 'Atrocious' Second Period For Bruins In 2-1 Loss To Montreal
BOSTON (CBS) - Dave Goucher and Bob Beers recap the Bruins 2-1 loss to Montreal, and Adam Jones breaks down the three best and worst story lines from the game in Plus/Minus.
Plus:
1. Gregory Campbell's pretty 2-on-1 goal to give Boston 1-0 lead In first period. Campbell got a beautiful set-up by Milan Lucic and Dennis Seidenberg. Overall, Boston outshot the Canadiens 10-3 in the first period.
2. The Boston power play continues to impress, as they killed off four penalties in Montreal; two in the first and two in the second period.
3. The Shawn Thornton-Brandon Prust fight in the third period.
Minus:
1. Defenseman Johnny Boychuk had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher after a hit from behind by Max Pacioretty. Boychuk was on the ice for several minutes and was immediately taken to a Montreal hospital. The good news is he was later released and was able to fly back to Boston with the team.
2. Boston's second period was, as Claude Julien said after the game, "atrocious." The Bruins were out-shot 18-7 and watched their 1-0 lead turn into a 2-1 deficit.
"It was unacceptable," Julien said. "There are no excuses about playing with five defensemen. We have to look in the mirror."
Harsh words, but Claude isn't wrong.
3. Boston's second line was a non-factor. Patrice Bergeron won just 12 of 28 faceoffs, and Brad Marchand and Loui Eriksson combined for one shot on goal.
