Planned Parenthood President Speaks At Clinton Canvas Kickoff In Cambridge
CAMBRIDGE (CBS) -- Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood, told supporters of Hillary Clinton Sunday that the former Secretary of State was the best candidate to protect women's reproductive rights.
"Given the attacks on fundamental rights not only to safe and legal abortion, fundamental attacks on the right to birth control access, we gotta have somebody in the White House, as we have had with President Obama, who's willing to stand up to the Congress," said Richards. "I will never forget him standing up to John Boehner and saying he would not agree to a budget that defunded Planned Parenthood."
She told the dozens of Clinton supporters at a canvasing event in Cambridge Sunday that the need to go out and knock on doors was even greater given Republican candidates' desires to defund Planned Parenthood.
"I think that the field at large on the Republican side is as extreme as anything I've ever seen in the Republican party, and in a presidential election," said Richards.
Richards said Clinton was the only candidate who had a lifetime commitment to reproductive rights and access to healthcare for all.
