No Bail For 2 Men Charged With Shooting Into Planet Fitness In Lynn

LYNN (CBS) – Two young men accused of firing a gun into a crowded gym in Lynn over the weekend were ordered held without bail Monday.

Jahkeal Browne, 19, of Roslindale, and Kymauri Jean-Lestin, 19, of Lynn, pleaded not guilty to several charges, including assault with intent to murder, in Lynn District Court. They hid behind a door during their arraignment.

Several shots were fired outside the Planet Fitness on Boston Street around 1:15 p.m. Saturday. No one was hurt, but some of the rounds went through a window inside the gym. According to prosecutors, the intended target was a man who had words with Browne and Jean-Lestin.  He then ran to the back of the gym to get away from them before the shots were fired.

"Glass was shattering people started dropping weights, letting go of the machines in panic," a witness told WBZ-TV. "Someone's yelling 'Get down! Everybody get down.'"

Pictures show the bullet casings inside the gym. Some of them landed just inches away from machines people were using. A black tarp now covers one of the front windows with crime scene tape hanging inside.

"There were six shots fired and the shots certainly went right through the glass of the Planet Fitness," Police Lt. Michael Kmiec said.

An off-duty police officer heard the gunfire, followed the men and called for backup.

"The officer did a great job keeping dispatch updated on the location so we could get additional officers there to assist him and then they were able to make the stop of the vehicle and then get evidence as well," Kmiec said.

When police arrested Browne and Jean-Lestin, investigators say they seized a gun, ammunition and approximately 80 grams of crack cocaine.

Both are being held without bail and are due back in court December 4.
