3 Killed When Plane Crashes Into Plainville Home

PLAINVILLE (CBS) -- All three passengers on board a small plane that crashed into a Plainville home were killed, officials said.

The crash occurred shortly before 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Emergency crews responded to the scene on Bridle Path where they found a home and plane engulfed in flames.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the Beechcraft BE36 plane was headed to Norwood Memorial Airport from Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

The pilot told an air traffic controller he was experiencing engine trouble.

"We've got a real bad vibration. We're losing engines," the pilot told the controller not long before the crash.

Before losing signal, the controller recommended the pilot try to land on Interstate 495.

Neighbors said they felt the ground shake when the plane hit the home.

"It was like thunder shook the house kind of like an earthquake feeling," one neighbor said. "I just went outside and saw smoke everywhere and people running up the street."

Four family members who were in the home at the time were able to get out safely. The pets in the home were also rescued.

State Fire Marshal Stephan Coan called the family's survival a "miracle."

Emergency crews remained at the home overnight. Federal crash investigators will arrive Monday.
