Plainridge Park Casino: A Look Inside The State's First Slots Parlor
PLAINVILLE (CBS) – One-thousand two-hundred slot machines are out of the boxes at the Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville.
Workers are rushing to get the state's first slots parlor ready for its grand opening on June 24.
The $225 million complex is about 35 miles southwest of Boston. It will be open all day, every day and the so-called "one armed-bandits" are not the only lure for your money.
"In addition to the traditional slot machines, we'll have what are called electronic table games," Lance George of Plainridge Park Casino told WBZ-TV.
That's video blackjack, video poker and video roulette.
"So all the traditional table games that would be offered at a casino are offered electronically," he said.
Plainridge Park will also host harness racing.
The gambling parlor also means about 600 jobs and with the state taking 40-percent of the revenue, there's an estimated $100 million windfall expected for the treasury each year.
It's all made possible by the state's casino law passed in 2011. That law survived a challenge at the ballot box just last year.
"It has been a long haul," George said. "I would say we're all delighted that there's a light at the end of the tunnel at this point."
Not everyone is pleased. There are still concerns about gambling problems.
In addition to this slots parlor, the state law also allows for three full, resort casinos.
