Loose Pit Bulls Attack 3 In Fall River
FALL RIVER (CBS) -- Three people were injured, two of them severely, after four pit bulls got loose in Fall River on Monday, police said.
A 70-year-old woman told police she was walking on Howe Street at about 4 p.m. when two dogs approached and latched onto her purse. When she tried to pull the purse away, the dogs bit her arm, giving her a severe forearm injury and causing her to fall. She was taken to St. Anne's Hospital by medical rescue.
Police said the loose dogs also attacked a 54-year-old man who tried to fend them off with a stick. He fell to the ground and was bitten several times by the dogs. He suffered severe injuries and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital.
A 39-year-old woman walking with the man was also bitten, but she was treated at the scene and released, police said.
The dogs apparently left their home through an unsecured door, according to police. They said the dogs' owner is a 43-year-old woman who owns four pit bulls, and will be charged with two counts of failing to license a dog and failing to vaccinate a dog.
All four dogs were captured by animal control officers with some help from the owner. The dogs will be in quarantine for 10 days, police said.
