Phantom Gourmet: LaCascia's Bakery And Deli In Burlington
BURLINGTON (CBS) -- There aren't many places around anymore like LaCascia's.
"Giant bakery, huge deli, lots of catering, pizza, kind of like a little mega store all in one spot," says Dave LaCascia.
Located in Burlington, LaCascia's Bakery and Deli has just about everything you're hungry for.
"The amount of food we crank out of this place is staggering," says Dave.
On one side of the store is the deli, where you can get an overloaded steak bomb, a cheese-smothered chicken parm, or some thin-crust Italian pizza.
On the other side is the bakery, where there are cakes and cookies, tarts and tiramisu, and made-from-scratch lobster tail pastries bursting with cream.
"Anybody I've ever brought one to that's never had one is blow away by it," says Anthony LaCascia.
It all began almost a century ago, when the LaCascia family opened a small bread bakery in East Boston.
In 1980, they moved to this spot in Burlington, and today, the third generation of LaCascia's keep the tradition alive, 365 days a year.
And turning out all this fantastic food takes an entire family.
"I'm a General Manager that focuses more on the deli side," says Dave. "My brother basically focuses on the whole bakery side My sister is one of the cake decorators. My aunt is the head cake decorator, she's worked here for longer than I've been alive I'm pretty sure. And my brother in law, who's my sister's husband, he's been here forever too."
And whether you order from the deli or grab something from the bakery, at LaCascia's it's all part of a delicious family tradition.
"You know my grandparents look down on us saying, 'jeez, to think where this came from, a little grocery store bread shop, and now we have this,'"says Dave. "I would think they'd be proud. I know they'd be proud."
