Pettitte Causing Dysfunction In Yanks' Rotation?
BOSTON (CBS) -- The return of Andy Pettitte to the New York Yankees was celebrated by fans and players alike, as the legendary lefty has left countless memorable moments in New York.
Two people who aren't feeling very nostalgic, though, are Freddy Garcia and Phil Hughes -- the two men vying for a spot in the Yankees' rotation.
"I don't really care. That's their decision. I'm here to pitch and that's what I want to do," Garcia told The Star Ledger's Marc Craig when asked about Pettitte's return.
The report added that Garcia "threw his hands up, seemingly exasperated" when asked if the addition of Pettitte was good for the team.
"I don't know, man. Ask the people. I don't know. I guess," Garcia finally answered.
Hughes wasn't quite as objectionable to the Pettitte addition, instead telling the New York Daily News that "everyone" is excited for Pettitte's return.
"I worry about the things I can control and that's it," Hughes told the Daily News. "All I can control is the work I do, the work I do out on the field. That's the only thing I'm going to worry myself with. Everyone is glad to have Andy back. ... What's going to happen is going to happen. I'm just going to do all that I can do and that's it. Andy has been here before, I've been in this situation before and that's the end of it. Everyone in here is excited for him to come back."
It doesn't necessarily seem that way, does it?
Pettitte didn't play last season, while Garcia found the fountain of youth with the Yanks, going 12-8 with a 3.62 ERA in 146.2 innings. Hughes pitched just 74.2 innings last season, going 5-5 with a 5.79 ERA.
