PETA Pens Letter To Boston Police For Ice Cream Truck Addition
BOSTON (CBS) -- Animal rights group PETA has a message for the Boston Police Department.
The group's president penned a letter to Boston Police Commissioner William Evans calling for dairy-free offerings on the department's new ice cream truck.
But that's not all.
"I'd like to make an offer that will sweeten your relationship with members of the community without giving the cold shoulder to their health," PETA President Ingrid Newkirk wrote in a letter to Commissioner Evans.
The group wants to donate $1,000 worth of So Delicious vegan ice cream bars for the truck to distribute.
According to Newkirk, the donation would benefit "kids who are lactose-intolerant, people who object to the cruelty of the dairy industry, and anyone who for health, religious, or environmental reasons steers clear of dairy foods."
The group claims consuming dairy foods contributes to acne, food allergies, bloating, constipation, and ear infections.
"It would be a crime to miss out on delicious dairy-free ice cream—a summer treat that gives everyone a lucky break," Newkirk said in a public statement.
No word whether Boston Police has scooped up their offer.
